POS for beauty salons and spas in Morocco: the 2026 guide

Prepaid courses of treatment, therapist commission, products sold at the counter and cabins running half empty: four problems the appointment book does not solve. Here is what a till genuinely fixes, and what it does not replace.

In a salon, the till is not first of all about taking money: it is about knowing what is still owed. A client who buys ten sessions and uses three has paid you for seven you still have to deliver, and that is the worst-kept figure in the sector. Add therapist commission, products sold at the counter and cabins whose occupancy you do not know, and you have this article’s four problems. The appointment book solves none of them.

In short

  • A prepaid package is a liability, not earned turnover. Track the session balance, not just the payment.
  • Commission is calculated on what is recorded: every treatment must carry the name of whoever performed it.
  • Retail is the easiest margin and the one most often lost for want of being rung up.
  • BelloPOS has no appointment book and no online booking. Said up front, not in a footnote.
  • Weddings and Eid make a large share of the year: deposits must be recorded as deposits.

What makes this trade different

Five realities of the trade, and what each demands of the tool. No generic POS covers any of them.

What is differentWhat it implies
The client pays before consumingA ten-session package taken today commits you for months. With no session balance, nobody knows where each client stands.
The treatment is done by a specific personLoyalty often goes to the therapist as much as to the salon, and their pay depends on what they performed.
Cabin time is the real resourceWhat caps turnover is not demand, it is the number of sellable cabin hours in a week.
There is a shop at the counterCreams, oils, hair products: immediate margin that doubles a happy client’s ticket, if someone remembers to offer it.
Peaks are social, not commercialWeddings, celebrations, Eid and the school return create saturated weeks and empty ones, unrelated to your promotions.

The functions you genuinely need

In order of real importance, with the limitation stated plainly.

  • A client record with a balance: Name, phone, packages bought and sessions remaining. This is the central function: in BelloPOS the package is sold as a product and the client exists as a customer with their full history, so what was paid and when can be found again.
  • Sales in the therapist’s name: Every payment carries the user who entered it. That is what makes commission calculable without an argument at month end.
  • Product stock: Two stocks in reality: what you resell and what you consume in the cabin. The second is the one nobody counts, and the one that leaks.
  • Deposits: Taking an advance on a wedding booking and finding it again on the day, without a sticky note on the screen.
  • What BelloPOS does not do: No appointment book, no online booking, no automatic reminder texts. If your salon lives on online scheduling you need a booking tool; we do not pretend to replace one.

A typical day, from first customer to closing

A typical day, from the first appointment to closing.

  1. Open with a counted float and check the stock of the three products that move fastest.
  2. When a client arrives, open her record: you see immediately whether she has sessions left on a package.
  3. Record the treatment in the therapist’s name, even when it is already paid for by a package: that is what decrements the session and feeds the commission.
  4. Offer the product at the counter, one sentence, at the end of the treatment. Half the day’s margin is decided there.
  5. Take deposits separately and note the date of the booking.
  6. In the evening, pull the report per therapist and the product report, then count the drawer.
  7. Once a week, look at cabin hours sold against hours open. It is your only real capacity indicator.

Hardware: what earns its place, and when

A salon needs even less hardware than a shop.

The equipmentUseful?Why
A computer at receptionEssentialThe only genuinely necessary piece. BelloPOS runs on it offline.
A receipt printerYesFor the treatment as much as for the product sold.
A barcode scannerYes if you retailCosmetics carry barcodes: scanning avoids pricing errors on lines that look alike.
A cash drawerIt dependsUseful if you take a lot of cash and several people work reception.
A tablet in the cabinRarelyAttractive on paper, little used in practice: payment happens at the counter, on the way out.

In Morocco, in practice

The Moroccan calendar shapes a salon’s year more than any commercial campaign. The wedding season, the two Eids and the school return create weeks where every cabin is full and others where they run half empty. Wedding work also arrives with deposits paid sometimes months ahead, usually in cash: record them as deposits attached to a client and a date, not as the day’s takings, or June’s cash position is wrong and so is September’s.

The second point is informal competition: a lot of treatment work, particularly at home, happens outside any structure and without an invoice. That pulls prices down and makes differentiation by service and by product more important than differentiation by price. It is also why the client record is worth so much here: a salon that knows when to call a client back keeps custom that price alone does not hold.

What it costs, and where to start

A shop’s budget splits in two, and the two should not be confused. Software on one side, hardware on the other. The software can be free: BelloPOS Lite is a free lifetime licence covering sales, stock, receipts, barcode scanning and up to three users, entirely offline. The hardware is paid for once and kept for years.

If the business grows, the two tiers above are bought once rather than subscribed to: BelloPOS Go at 9,000 MAD opens up unlimited users, roles and permissions and invoice export, and BelloPOS Pro at 40,000 MAD adds the analytics dashboard, reporting, networked terminals and the restaurant module (prices recorded in July 2026). Always run the five-year sum before comparing with a monthly subscription.

Your first seven days

  1. Install BelloPOS at reception and create your treatments as products, with the duration in the name: facial 45 min, leg wax 30 min.
  2. Create your packages as separate products, with the number of sessions in the name.
  3. Create a record for every client with a package running, with the number of sessions already used.
  4. Enter the retail stock and, separately, the cabin products.
  5. Create an account for each therapist, with her code.
  6. Write the deposit rule: how much, refundable or not, and where it is recorded.
  7. After a week, pull the per-therapist report and the product report, and compare them with your intuition.

The other solutions worth knowing

We are not the only option, and a good guide says so. Here are the international solutions that come up most, with an honest note on what each is worth to a Moroccan business.

ToolWhat it is worth, and for whom
Odoo POSOpen source, and the till is only one module of a suite that also handles stock, purchasing and accounting. The strongest choice when you are growing and want everything in one place. In exchange, it takes the longest to set up.
LoyverseA free till for Android tablets or iPad, very easy to pick up, with paid add-ons for team management and advanced stock. A good choice on the move, but the data lives in the cloud.
SquareVery popular in North America and Europe. The software is free because Square earns from processing card payments. That is precisely the catch here: check first whether the service covers Morocco.

Check this before choosing a foreign tool

A word of caution before getting excited about a foreign tool. Many of them are free because they earn from card acceptance, and that side depends on country-by-country agreements. In Morocco, card acceptance goes through a terminal supplied by your bank or an approved payment institution. Before building your business on an app, check two things: that it is actually available in Morocco, and that it can produce a document carrying the mandatory Moroccan invoice fields.

The mistakes we see most often

  • Counting a sold package as earned turnover. Those are sessions you still owe.
  • Not recording prepaid treatments. The balance becomes unverifiable and the commissions unfair.
  • Mixing retail stock with cabin stock. The second always leaks, and you never see it.
  • Booking a deposit as a day’s sale. Your cash position then lies twice.
  • Buying full booking software before having a scheduling problem. Many salons never have one.

Frequently asked questions

Which software should a Moroccan beauty salon use?

Start with the till and the client record: that is where the packages, the commission and the retail sit, which is where the money is. BelloPOS Lite is free for life and covers all three offline. Add an online booking tool only if your clients genuinely book online, which is not yet the norm in most cities.

How should prepaid packages be handled?

Sell the package as a product, then record each session used in the client’s and the therapist’s name. The remaining balance becomes a verifiable figure instead of a conversation. It also protects you if there is a disagreement about how many sessions were taken.

How is therapist commission calculated?

On what is recorded, never on memory. Every treatment entered under the account of whoever performed it gives a per-person total at month end. The calculation rule itself must be written and known before the first month, not negotiated after it.

Does BelloPOS handle appointments?

No. It has no diary and no online booking, and we prefer to say so clearly. It handles sales, the client record, packages as products, stock and per-user reporting.

Should a salon sell retail products?

It is the easiest margin in the trade, provided you treat it as a real shop: stock, thresholds, visible prices and one sentence at the end of the treatment. A salon that does not count its products loses more than margin, it loses half its commercial information.

What to take away

A salon is steered with three numbers most do not have: sessions still owed on packages, turnover per therapist, and the share of retail in the average ticket. None of the three needs expensive software; they need every treatment and every product to go through the till in somebody’s name. Start there, for free, and only pay for an online diary the day the telephone stops being enough.

Packages, commission and retail in one place
