Start an online selling business in Morocco: essential steps

Identity, terms, data, payment, delivery, stock and foreign exchange: build an operable Moroccan e-commerce flow before advertising.

An Instagram page and a payment method do not yet amount to a controlled e-commerce business. Before you advertise, connect legal identity, the offer, consumer information, personal data, payment, stock, delivery, returns and evidence. The path changes again if you buy a service from abroad or export goods.

The minimum stack

  • A legal route and an activity that have been validated.
  • The seller’s identity visible to the customer.
  • Honest price, availability and delivery commitments.
  • Terms of sale and a returns policy suited to your activity.
  • Data processing reviewed against CNDP requirements.
  • Payment organised and reconciled against orders.
  • Real stock behind the availability you display.
  • Exchange, import and export rules confirmed for international flows.

1. Map the flows before building the site

Write down who sells, who collects the money, where the stock sits and who delivers.

Marketplacecontract, commission and data ownershipdependence on the platform
Preorderlead time, refunds and evidencean unrealistic promise to the customer

2. Build the trust the law requires

The Ministry notes that Law 31-08 protects the consumer. Have the required statements and conditions checked against the path you actually operate, not a theoretical one.

  1. Display the seller’s identity and contact details.
  2. Describe the product, the total price and its availability.
  3. State the delivery zone, cost and lead time realistically.
  4. Explain the order, payment, confirmation and the evidence the customer receives.
  5. Define cancellation, return, refund and the complaints route.
  6. Retain the versions of the terms customers accepted, with their dates.
  7. Train customer service to apply these rules in practice.

Do not use terms copied from French sites: the parties, the taxes, the deadlines and the rights all have to match Morocco and match your own flow.

3. Treat personal data as sensitive stock

The CNDP states that sites collecting personal data must notify the applicable processing, and must frame processors, purpose, retention, marketing and cookies.

“Selling online” covers several different legal regimes

A domestic site, a service import, dropshipping and exporting do not share the same flow. Have tax, customs, exchange, data and consumer-law treatment validated for your exact model.

4. Separate domestic from international payment

For foreign service purchases, exports or collections in foreign currency, the 2026 exchange regulations and your bank define what is possible and what evidence is required. Do not treat a personal allowance as a business budget.

  • Card or transfer: the order reference
  • Cash on delivery: cash, refusals and returns
  • Marketplace: the statement and the commission deducted
  • Foreign currency: the bank, the contract and the supporting document

For each channel, reconcile the order, the expected amount, the commission, the amount received, any refund and the bank date.

5. Connect the site to stock and to picking

What you promise online has to come from stock that is genuinely sellable, not from a figure updated by hand once a week.

  • Reserve stock as soon as the order is confirmed.
  • Separate prepared, shipped, delivered, refused and returned.
  • Control the cash collected on cash-on-delivery orders.
  • Return goods to stock only after inspecting their condition.
  • Measure margin after advertising, commission and delivery — not before.

BelloPOS can centralise counter sales and help manage stock and imported orders according to the flow you plan, and since 3.0 Pro adds accounting and purchasing. It replaces neither the website, nor the payment gateway, nor compliance with data-protection rules.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Launching advertising before organising returns.
  • Displaying stock that does not exist.
  • Copying foreign terms of sale without adapting them.
  • Collecting more data than you need.
  • Mixing a personal exchange allowance with business spending.
  • Calculating margin before delivery and commission.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a company to sell online?

You need a legal route suited to the person, the activity and the scale of operations; not always a company, but never an anonymous page either.

Is an Instagram page enough?

No. You remain responsible for identity, information, the order, data, payment, delivery and service.

Must my site be notified to the CNDP?

The CNDP states that the site’s personal-data processing is subject to the applicable formalities. Map them and verify your own case.

How do I manage cash on delivery?

Track shipped, delivered, refused, cash received, the amount remitted to you, and the cost of returns for each carrier.

Does BelloPOS replace the online shop?

No. It can support sales and stock operations; the site, the payment gateway and the digital obligations stay separate.

What to take away

Reliable Moroccan e-commerce is not a shop window: it is a chain of evidence running from identity to return. Validate the legal flow first, then automate only what the team can actually control.

Connect orders to real inventory

If you also sell at the counter, avoid having two versions of the truth about stock, and measure the full cost of each order.
