Good news up front: all three programs on this page are genuinely free, with no thirty-day trial and no card. The question is therefore not « which one is free », but what each one costs you elsewhere: in limits, in setup work, in languages, and in what will be missing the day the Moroccan tax authority asks you for an electronic invoice.

The solutions compared
Three Windows desktop programs, three philosophies: community free software, commercial freeware with paid plugins, and a local free tier built for three languages and an uncertain connection.
uniCenta oPOS
A Java desktop till published under the GNU GPL v3 free licence. Multi-location, multi-terminal, multi-user, 17 languages, backed by a MySQL or MariaDB database. Version 5.4.0 added a WooCommerce integration. The project is distributed on SourceForge, where its last update is dated 10 August 2025.
Aronium
A native Windows till in two editions: Aronium Lite, free and with no registration, and Aronium Pro, which connects several registers to one database. Everything else is added through plugins, free or paid, billed per store.
BelloPOS
Our Windows till software, built in Morocco. It runs 100% offline: no sale depends on the connection. The interface and the receipts exist in French, Arabic and English. Three tiers: Lite free for life, Go and Pro bought once, never subscribed to.

What it really costs over five years
All three free versions cost zero, which makes the top of the table short. The interest starts on the next line: what each one’s first paid tier costs, the day the free version is no longer enough.

The amounts above are worked out from the public prices recorded on 27 July 2026, with VAT added where a price is quoted excluding tax, and with no commercial discount. For prices in dollars, the rate used: 1 USD = 9.4 MAD, recorded 27 July 2026. Redo the sum with the day’s prices before you decide: they move, and it is your money.
This table says something important: Aronium Pro at about 940 MAD a year per store is by far the cheapest paid tier in this entire comparison, and that deserves acknowledging plainly. Over five years it comes to under 5,000 MAD per store, against 9,000 MAD for BelloPOS Go. The difference is decided elsewhere: on languages, on Arabic printing, on local support and on Moroccan invoicing.
What each free version really gives you
What is free at Aronium deserves spelling out, because it is broader than people assume. Aronium Lite first, at $0, with no registration and no licence, in its publisher’s words: a « fully functional » version usable indefinitely. Then eight free plugins, according to their own page: stock control, expiration dates, named orders, takeaway, notes, dual currency, maximum retail price, and the Saudi e-invoicing plugin. Several competitors charge for the equivalent.
uniCenta oPOS plays a different game. It is free software under GNU GPL v3, which means you can install it on as many machines and in as many shops as you like, at no cost and with nobody able to withdraw that right. It is multi-store, multi-terminal and multi-user, exists in 17 languages, runs on a MySQL or MariaDB database and offers more than fifty reports. Version 5.4.0 added a WooCommerce integration. On paper it is the most powerful of the three.
Its real cost, then, is not in money but in time. Installing Java, setting up a database, backing it up, restoring it when it breaks: that is administrator work, not shopkeeper work. If you have someone who can do it, uniCenta is an excellent deal. If not, that licence saving will be paid for in lost evenings, and it is better to know beforehand.
BelloPOS Lite, finally, is a free lifetime licence covering sales, stock tracking, receipt printing, printer setup, barcode scanning, the second customer screen, customer balances, history and the catalogue, entirely offline, with the interface and printing in French, Arabic and English. Its limit is clear and we would rather write it here: three users maximum, and a watermark on the interface.
The point that really separates the three
The point that decides it for a Moroccan business. Aronium publishes fiscal plugins, but they target two specific countries: Saudi Arabia, with the E-invoice KSA plugin (free) and Fatoora for ZATCA phase 2 (8 dollars a month), and Vanuatu, with VSMS (10 dollars a month). There is no Moroccan module. This is not a reproach: a publisher builds for the markets it sells into, and Aronium has never claimed to cover Morocco. But since e-invoicing is currently the most active subject in the Moroccan market, it is a factor to weigh now rather than in two years (checked on aronium.com on 27 July 2026).
uniCenta has no Moroccan module either, and probably never will: it is an international community project. That does not disqualify it, but it means compliance will be your problem, not the software’s. That is the real price of free international solutions in this market, and it does not show up on a pricing page.
unicenta.com was unreachable on the day of writing
A note on method, because it matters to a buyer. On 27 July 2026, unicenta.com did not respond from our network, neither directly nor through a second route. We therefore worked from the project page on SourceForge, which shows a last update of 10 August 2025 and points to version 5.4.0. The software exists, it is actively distributed, and this outage may be temporary. But a POS project whose site is intermittent is useful information before building your business on it, and for that reason their support subscription amount remains unverified: we will therefore quote none.
How to choose: the twenty-minute method
Test all three. They are free, they install on the same machine, and one evening is enough to decide. Here is how to do it seriously.
- Count your real needs before you look at a single price. How many tills, how many users, do you invoice businesses, do you need stock, do you take delivery orders. Five answers, and half the offers rule themselves out. Our guide to choosing a till works through this questionnaire.
- Test the checkout, not the demo. Ask to ring up ten items, one return and one split payment, yourself, and time it. A well-rehearsed demo tells you nothing about what your cashier will face on a Saturday.
- Pull the internet cable and try to sell. That one test splits the whole market in two, and it takes thirty seconds. We go through it in detail in our offline or cloud POS comparison.
- Ask for an export of your own data before you pay anything. Products, customers, sales, in a file you can open. If the answer is vague, you already know how this ends.
- Add up five years, not one month. A subscription is compared with a one-off purchase over the time you will actually use it.
- Check that the receipt prints correctly in Arabic before you commit. On a thermal printer that is not a given, and it takes a minute to see.
- Ask who answers the phone on a Saturday at 8pm, and in which language. That is exactly when a till breaks.
- Install all three on the same evening and time the setup itself. That is already a criterion.
- Enter your twenty real products, not demo items, and print a receipt with the names in Arabic.
What each solution does better
uniCenta oPOS
Its licence. uniCenta oPOS is free software under the GNU GPL v3: you can install it on as many machines and in as many shops as you like, with no licence fee, and nobody can withdraw your right to use it. The database is yours, readable, on your own server. If independence from a software publisher matters to you more than anything else, this is the right answer and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Its multi-location support and its fifty reports are serious work, and rare at this price.
Aronium
Its plugin model, and its value for money. Aronium Lite is free, complete and asks for no registration: you download it and you sell. Aronium Pro at 100 dollars a year per store is honestly cheap for what it does, and the free plugins (stock control, expiry dates, named orders, takeaway, notes, dual currency) cover needs that others charge for. The publisher keeps a detailed changelog, which is a good sign about a piece of software’s health.
Mistakes to avoid
- Choosing uniCenta without knowing how to administer a database. The software is free, your time is not.
- Assuming a free foreign till will handle Moroccan invoicing. Neither international option has a tax-authority module.
- Discovering BelloPOS Lite’s three-user limit after training the team. Count your users first, not afterwards.
- Not testing Arabic printing on a real thermal printer. What shows on screen proves nothing.
- Installing with no backup plan. A free till that loses a year of sales is very expensive indeed.

To be selling tonight with a single till: Aronium Lite. Nothing to configure, nothing to pay, nothing to register. It is honestly the fastest of the three, and if your business does not need Moroccan invoicing, it is an excellent choice.
For a Moroccan business that prints in Arabic: BelloPOS Lite. Free for life, offline, trilingual on screen and in print, with support that answers in Darija. Its three-user limit is real and you now know about it.
For a technical user who wants total control: uniCenta oPOS. Free software under GPL v3, multi-store, and fifty reports, against real setup work. If independence matters to you above all else, that is the right answer and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
