“How much does a cash register cost?” has three answers, not one, because there are three separate bills: the counter hardware, the software that runs on it, and getting started. Adverts show you one of them, the one they sell. This guide gives all three, with prices read on 28 July 2026, and then the figure nobody prints: what the same shop has paid after five years.

In short
- Hardware starts around 4,800 MAD for a touch terminal and reaches 11,500 MAD for a full installed kit.
- Software runs from 0 to about 640 MAD a month. That is the widest gap, and the one that decides the long run.
- A shop can start at 0 MAD of software: several vendors, ourselves included, have a genuinely free licence.
- Over five years the subscription changes everything. 199 MAD a month is 11,940 MAD, more than a licence bought once.
- But the subscription wins early, and if cash is tight that is a serious argument. We make it below, with the numbers.
Bill one: the counter hardware
This is the easy part to price because you can see it. The amounts below are the published “from” prices of a Moroccan reseller, allocaisse.ma, read on 28 July 2026. They give the right order of magnitude for the whole market.
| The equipment | What it is for | From |
|---|---|---|
| Compact 12-inch terminal | A small counter, one operator. | 4,800 MAD |
| 15-inch touch terminal | The usual shop format. | 5,600 MAD |
| Restaurant station, dual screen | Customer screen at the back, printer. | 5,900 MAD |
| Order-taking tablet | Floor, terrace, market stall. | 7,500 MAD |
| Full installed kit | Terminal, printer, drawer, reader, fitting. | 11,500 MAD |
| 21-inch self-order kiosk | Fast food, self-service. | 18,500 MAD |
Two remarks that save real money. First, none of this is required to start: POS software runs on the laptop you already own, with a mouse and keyboard, and prints to any printer Windows already knows. Second, the touchscreen is the most expensive item and the least urgent. A barcode scanner costing a few hundred dirhams will save you far more time per day than a touchscreen, for a tenth of the price.
Bill two: the software, and its four ways of being sold
This is where budgets genuinely diverge. Four models coexist in Morocco and they are not compared at the same point in a shop’s life.
- The monthly subscription: From 150 to about 400 MAD a month depending on vendor and plan. You pay little to start and you pay for as long as you trade. The day you stop paying, the till stops.
- The subscription in a foreign currency: Some solutions sold in Morocco are billed in euros. You then pay the subscription and the exchange rate, every month. At 30 € a month that is about 320 MAD; at 60 €, about 640 MAD.
- The free version: It genuinely exists, and not only as a trial. Several vendors, ourselves included, give a free licence covering checkout, receipts and stock. Read the limit: number of products, number of users, number of shops.
- The licence bought once: You pay a sum up front and the software is yours. Nothing to renew, nothing that can cut you off. More expensive in month one and cheaper in year five.
None of these models is dishonest. They simply move the spending around in time, and the right choice depends mostly on how long you expect to keep the shop.
Bill three: getting started, the one people forget
This is the line most often missing from a quote, and the one that makes projects get abandoned. Cost it honestly, in five lines.
- Entering the catalogue. Five hundred products is several days of work. Some vendors do part of it with you: we load your first 20 products with the Go plan and your first 1,000 with Pro, provided the list exists and is clean.
- Barcode labels. Anything that arrives without a code needs one. Budget for the label roll and an afternoon.
- Setting up printer and drawer. An hour when all goes well, half a day with an awkward model.
- Training the team. Two hours is enough for checkout. The rest is learned while selling.
- Bringing across what you have. If you are leaving another system, ask before you sign what form you can get your products and customers out in. It is the most expensive hidden cost and it only shows up on the way out.
Add it up: an average shop invests one to two working days before the first sale. It is not a bill, but it is a cost, and budgeting for it prevents the disappointment.

What the advertised price almost never includes
Always check four things before signing: is the price excluding or including VAT (199 MAD excl. is 239 MAD incl., which is 480 MAD more a year); does the plan cover one till or several; are installation fees included; and is support in the price or sold separately. On the price lists we read, installation is explicitly excluded by several vendors.
Three Moroccan specifics that weigh on the budget
The first is VAT-exclusive pricing. Many Moroccan price lists quote a figure excluding tax, and the difference is not trivial over five years. The second is foreign-currency billing: paying a subscription in euros adds exchange-rate risk to what should be a predictable cost, and that risk works against you every time the dirham weakens.
The third is compliance. Your receipt must carry your details, your ICE and the VAT breakdown, and your invoices must follow Moroccan rules. A cheap foreign package that cannot issue a compliant invoice will cost you more in accounting hours than it saves you in subscription. Check that before the price, not after.
The figure nobody prints: five years
Here is the same software spend, projected. The amounts are computed from each vendor’s own public price list, read on 28 July 2026, VAT included where the price is quoted excluding it, and at 1 EUR = 10.66 MAD for the solutions billed in a foreign currency.
| The software | After 1 year | After 3 years | After 5 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| POSNEX Pro, 150 MAD a month | 1,800 MAD | 5,400 MAD | 9,000 MAD |
| Caisse212 Pro, 199 MAD a month | 2,388 MAD | 7,164 MAD | 11,940 MAD |
| QuickCom Essentiel, 199 MAD a month excl. VAT | 2,866 MAD | 8,597 MAD | 14,328 MAD |
| Avantages Feedback Basic, 30 € a month | 3,838 MAD | 11,513 MAD | 19,188 MAD |
| Avantages Feedback Gold, 60 € a month | 7,675 MAD | 23,026 MAD | 38,376 MAD |
| BelloPOS Lite, free lifetime licence | 0 MAD | 0 MAD | 0 MAD |
| BelloPOS Go, 9,000 MAD once | 9,000 MAD | 9,000 MAD | 9,000 MAD |
- A 199 MAD-a-month subscription passes a 9,000 MAD licence during year four. After that the gap never closes again.
- The subscription is still cheaper in year one, and by a lot. If cash flow is the constraint, it is the right call.
- Free is not a trap in itself. Read the limit and check it sits above your real need, not above your imagined one.
Other tools worth knowing
We are not the only option and an honest guide says so. Here are the international solutions that come up most, with what each is really worth to a Moroccan business.
| Tool | What it is worth, and for whom |
|---|---|
| Loyverse | A free till for Android tablets or iPad, very easy to pick up, with paid add-ons for team management and advanced stock. A good choice on the move, but the data lives in the cloud. |
| Square | Very popular in North America and Europe. The software is free because Square earns from processing card payments. That is precisely the catch here: check first whether the service covers Morocco. |
| Odoo POS | Open source, and the till is only one module of a suite that also handles stock, purchasing and accounting. The strongest choice when you are growing and want everything in one place. In exchange, it takes the longest to set up. |
Check this before choosing a foreign tool
A word of caution before getting excited about a foreign tool. Many of them are free because they earn from card acceptance, and that side depends on country-by-country agreements. In Morocco, card acceptance goes through a terminal supplied by your bank or an approved payment institution. Before building your business on an app, check two things: that it is actually available in Morocco, and that it can produce a document carrying the mandatory Moroccan invoice fields.
Mistakes to avoid
- Comparing a VAT-exclusive price to a VAT-inclusive one. That is 20%, and it is the most common mistake here.
- Buying the touchscreen first. The most expensive item and the least useful in month one.
- Forgetting the second till. Many plans are per terminal: the extra Saturday till can double the bill.
- Not asking how you leave. If your products and customers cannot be exported, the exit price is infinite.
- Reasoning over one year. A shop that works is still there in five, and five years is where the model is judged.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a cash register cost in Morocco in 2026?
Count three items. Hardware starts around 4,800 MAD for a touch terminal and reaches 11,500 MAD for a full installed kit. Software runs from 0 MAD, with a genuinely free licence, to about 640 MAD a month for the complete plans. Getting started is one to two working days. A small shop can begin on a PC it already owns, with free software, for the price of a receipt printer alone.
Is there a genuinely free till?
Yes. Several vendors offer a free version that is not a trial. BelloPOS Lite is a free lifetime licence covering checkout, receipts, the catalogue, stock, customers, barcodes and three staff accounts. Always check the stated limit: some free tiers cap the number of products or users.
Subscription or a licence bought once?
It depends on your horizon and your cash. Over one year the subscription costs less. From year four, a 9,000 MAD licence comes out cheaper than a 199 MAD-a-month subscription, and the gap keeps widening. If you are opening for a season or testing a concept, the subscription is the right choice.
Do I have to buy hardware?
No. POS software runs on an ordinary Windows PC or laptop with a mouse and keyboard. The only purchase genuinely worth making on day one is a receipt printer, plus a barcode scanner if you sell packaged goods. The touchscreen, the drawer and the customer display can wait.
Why are some prices shown in euros?
Because the product is published abroad and billed in its own currency. You then pay the subscription plus the exchange rate, every month. At 10.66 MAD to the euro, a 30 € plan comes to about 320 MAD and a 60 € plan to about 640 MAD, and those amounts move with the rate whatever you do.
What to take away
The price of a till is not a number, it is a rhythm. Hardware prices in one line and is easy to cut, software prices in years, and getting started prices in days of your own time. Put all three on the table before comparing anything, then choose by how long you expect to keep the shop: short term, subscribe; long term, buy the licence; and when in doubt start free, which costs nothing to try.
Start at 0 MAD of software
BelloPOS Lite is a free lifetime licence: checkout, receipts, catalogue, stock, customers and barcodes, on the Windows PC you already own and with no internet connection at all. The Go and Pro plans are bought once, never monthly.
