In Rabat, buy a till that can take payment, produce the right document and separate each user’s permissions. A compact station is publicly listed from 4,800 MAD, but the quote must state Windows, printer, software, fitting and training. Test an invoice and receipt with your real data, then send the export to the accountant before paying. Compare support territory too: HCP counted more active establishments in Sale than Rabat, and a provider covering Rabat without stating response towards Sale or Temara does not cover your actual operating area.

In brief
- Choose the machine format before the supplier: an electronic register, touchscreen all-in-one and existing Windows PC have different cost and repair paths.
- Test two distinct documents: the retail receipt and the named invoice for a business customer.
- Do not type ICE into a free-text note. The customer field should remain linked to the sale, printout, export and any correction.
- Create named accounts for cashier, manager and administrator. Rabat has a higher share of establishments with ten or more staff than the regional average.
- Write down the support territory: workshop, travel across Rabat, Sale and Temara, hours, indicative response, price and fallback.
1. The Rabat, Sale and Temara operating area changes the choice
HCP’s 2023/2024 mapping counted 28,028 active economic establishments in Rabat prefecture, compared with 40,657 in Sale and 23,651 in Skhirate-Temara. Rabat’s total comprises 26,199 for-profit establishments, 1,228 public-service establishments and 601 non-profit bodies in independent premises. These figures do not say who will buy from you. They show why hardware, technician and support searches should not stop at the municipality boundary. The free POS guide for Rabat compares software; start here with the machine and how it will be maintained.
| Format | Verifiable hardware budget | Choose it if | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Traditional electronic register | On request, no reliable public price found | Your catalogue is short and you want fixed keys | PLU count, VAT, exports, backups and the cost of reprogramming prices |
| Touchscreen all-in-one | From 4,800 MAD | You want a tidy counter and a dedicated machine | Windows, memory, storage, ports, printer, warranty and setup |
| Existing PC + POS software | 0 MAD hardware if the PC is suitable | You are starting small or want every part to be replaceable | Printer compatibility, backups, licence rights and support |
At a narrow Hassan counter or an Agdal shop, measure depth, ports and the paper path before choosing an all-in-one. For an operation serving several sites around Rabat, test users, consolidation and work during an outage instead. A district name proves neither bandwidth nor sales volume. Test the address, products and team that will actually use the till.
2. Rabat till prices and quote comparison
The references below come from public Moroccan prices checked on 28 July 2026. They do not prove that a Rabat seller holds the model in stock and do not replace a quote. Ask for make, model, system, memory, ports, accessories, delivery, warranty and availability date. Our POS hardware price guide itemises the parts.
| Published offer | Price from | What the quote must specify |
|---|---|---|
| Compact 12-inch station | 4,800 MAD | Exact system, touchscreen and connections |
| 15-inch touchscreen station | 5,600 MAD | Single or dual screen and whether a printer is included |
| Restaurant station | 5,900 MAD | Whether printer, software and setup are included |
| POS tablet | 7,500 MAD | Reader, portable printer and real battery life |
| Complete kit | 11,500 MAD | Terminal, printer, drawer, scanner, fitting and training |
Compare line by line. A cheap bare station may cost more after Windows, printer, drawer, scanner and fitting are added. Reusing a suitable PC can reduce initial hardware to zero, but does not remove backup, configuration or assistance. Record the travel price outside Rabat and the cost of a loan unit while repairs are underway.
Software follows a separate price rule: perpetual purchase, subscription, user limit, modules or support. Do not turn one promotional month into the annual cost. Request first-year and three-year totals using the same assumptions, then verify exports before accepting long dependency on one supplier.
3. Receipt, invoice and ICE: the acceptance test
Subject to paragraph IX, article 145 III of Morocco’s 2026 General Tax Code provides for pre-numbered invoices or statements in a continuous series, or ones issued by a computer system in a continuous series. It lists seller identity, tax identification and professional-tax article, date, customer details and ICE, goods or services, amounts, VAT, and payment reference and method. For products or goods sold to individuals, a till receipt can serve as the invoice and must at least show date, seller, description, quantity, price and VAT when applicable. Confirm your position with your accountant; this guide does not determine your tax regime.
| Acceptance scenario | Action in the POS | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Sale to an individual | Two items, authorised discount, cash, then receipt | Readable number, date, seller, lines, quantities, prices and VAT |
| Business customer | Create name, address and ICE, then issue the invoice | Data reused without retyping and an exportable document |
| Error after validation | Void or issue the correction your adviser approved | User, reason and link to the original document |
| End of day | Close by cashier and payment method | Total reconcilable with cash, terminal and documents |
| Accountant handoff | Export the period and open it on another machine | Readable file, stable columns and dated backup |
The mandatory invoice fields guide provides the detail to validate with your adviser, while the sales receipt guide covers counter sales. Do not accept a comment box for ICE: look for a proper customer record, document series, history and export. Test Arabic and French characters on screen and printer too.

Software replaces neither tax setup nor advice
Ask the supplier to demonstrate fields, series, VAT, void, correction and export, but have your accountant approve the setup. A vague promise of a ‘DGI-compliant till’ is insufficient. Compliance depends on the document, your regime, data retention and procedures, not a sticker on the screen.
4. A service city, but with very different team sizes
UNESCO describes Rabat as a modern capital and historic city. That establishes the administrative setting, not the unverifiable claim that every shop invoices institutions. Regionally, HCP counted 50,956 for-profit service establishments, 33.2% of the total, carrying 40.1% of permanent employment. Commerce remains more numerous at 49.7% of establishments. Your till should therefore start with the actual trade and customer, not a label applied to the city.
The useful setup difference is size. In Rabat, 5.6% of for-profit establishments have ten or more permanent employees, against 2.6% regionally. That is not the majority: 81.5% have fewer than four. The same market therefore includes a one-cashier counter and an organisation needing roles, approvals, logs and separate closes.
Create one account per person, restrict discounts and voids, then print a report by user. For several sites, disconnect the network and verify what each location can still do, how numbering stays coherent and when data consolidates. The guide to choosing a cash register uses these scenarios instead of counting buttons in a demo.
- Small neighbourhood shop: Fast sale, readable receipt, simple backup, named users and replaceable peripherals.
- Shop with business customers: Customer record, address, ICE, document series, VAT, corrections, export and reference search.
- Several cashiers: Roles, discount approval, void trace, close by person and audit log.
- Sites around Rabat: Degraded mode, demonstrated sync, consolidation, backup and written support territory.
5. Choose the supplier and accept the setup
A local reseller lets you inspect hardware; a remote publisher may document software better. Neither an address nor a pitch replaces a commitment. Ask who sells each part, installs, imports products and customers, configures printing, trains the team and restores the backup. If you operate in Sale or Temara, request response and price for those addresses separately.
| Before signing | Evidence expected |
|---|---|
| Pack identity | Make, model, system, memory, storage, ports, peripherals and serial numbers |
| Documents | Retail receipt, business invoice, ICE, VAT, payment, void or correction and export |
| Users | Cashier, manager and administrator with distinct rights and named reports |
| Backup | A copy made and restored on another machine in front of you |
| Support | Hours, channel, Rabat, Sale, Temara, indicative response, travel, parts and loan unit |
Accept using real products and two customer types. Run a sale, discount, receipt, invoice, void or correction, close, export, outage, restart and restore. Retain administrator credentials, licences, references and a configuration copy. A successful demonstration is more useful than an unverified supplier list.
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying a compliance promise. Test documents and have the applicable setup approved.
- Confusing a receipt with a named invoice. Run both an individual and business scenario.
- Putting ICE in a free-text note. It must remain usable in the customer, document and export.
- Sharing the administrator account. Discounts, voids and closes then lose their author.
- Comparing a bare station with a kit. Align Windows, printer, drawer, scanner, software, fitting and training.
- Assuming support covers the whole conurbation. Write addresses, costs and responses for Rabat, Sale and Temara.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a cash register cost in Rabat?
The verified public reference starts at 4,800 MAD for a compact station. Final cost depends on Windows, printer, drawer, scanner, software, delivery, setup, training and support.
Where should I buy a till in Rabat?
Compare a local reseller for inspecting and repairing hardware with a publisher able to install remotely. Demand references, pack scope, warranty, exports, support territory and price instead of an unverifiable ranking.
Should the POS record the customer’s ICE?
For a business invoice, test a structured customer record with legal name, address and ICE, then verify printing and export. Have your accountant confirm the fields applicable to your activity.
Is a sales receipt always enough?
No. Article 145 lets the receipt serve as invoice for products or goods sold to individuals, with minimum fields. A business invoice follows a more complete scenario.
Do I need one account per cashier?
Yes when several people take payments. Named accounts restrict discounts and voids and let you reconcile each user’s close and variance.
Must the supplier travel to Sale and Temara?
Only if your contract says so. Request written territory, indicative response, travel price, covered parts and remote procedure for each site.
What to take away
In Rabat, choose a till on three proofs: full cost, documents the accountant validates and support that names its territory. HCP data shows an operating area larger than Rabat alone and widely varied team sizes. Test receipt, invoice, ICE, rights, export, outage and restore before the balance is paid. BelloPOS Lite lets you try local Windows checkout for free; it replaces neither tax advice nor a support commitment.
