In Marrakech, buy a cash register around the premises, sales rhythm and support, not an unverifiable supplier list. Public Moroccan prices show a compact station from 4,800 MAD, while an existing PC can run the software without a new display. In the medina, test connectivity at the exact address before choosing cloud. For visitor-facing trade, test languages, cash, cards, discounts and period closing. A remote supplier is valid when setup, backup and response times are demonstrated and written down.

1. The till format that fits your premises
HCP counted 61,875 profit-making establishments in Marrakech prefecture in 2023/2024, including 30,683 in trade and 20,621 in services. The medina accounts for 13,491, while Gueliz has 11,708 with services outnumbering trade. Those figures do not identify a better district; they show why one supplier meets very different settings. At a small souk counter, measure depth, cable routing and a protected PC position. In a Gueliz shop, check the customer display, barcode reader and stock flow. In a riad or restaurant, the path between room, reception and kitchen takes priority. The address alone never decides: the operations to test change with the trade.
2. Marrakech till prices and what the quote contains

A from price may exclude Windows, printer or setup. Put every component on a separate line and enter zero only when inclusion is confirmed. Add software, updates, data migration, delivery to the premises, seasonal staff training and a replacement device. Complete cost is more useful than a first-day discount.
3. Local, cloud or remote setup: the Marrakech test
Do not repeat that the whole medina has unreliable connectivity or power: the official sources reviewed do not establish it. Test your line, router, mobile coverage and electrical setup at the exact counter during trading hours, then run the same scenario with every product.

Hybrid is useful only when the supplier shows what remains available and what waits for reconnection.
Do not promise multicurrency before defining it
Demand four demonstrations: display a euro equivalent, accept euros, return change in dirhams, then produce a coherent accounting report. Many products only do the first. A bank terminal has its own rules and contract; it does not become multicurrency because the till shows two totals.
4. Tourism, seasons and payment methods
The Tourism Ministry counted 19.8 million visitors and 43.4 million nights in classified accommodation across Morocco in 2025. That is national, not a statistic for your street. In Marrakech it still justifies testing international-customer tasks without inventing their share of your sales: Arabic, French or English receipt, discount, void, cash, card and daily payment-method totals.

For seasonal activity, buy early enough to import the catalogue, count opening stock and train each role. Create named seasonal users instead of sharing the manager code, then disable them on departure. Compare busy and quiet months in reports rather than buying a yearly subscription because its peak month looks cheap.
- Medina shop: Prioritise a small footprint, on-site connectivity test, backups and hardware that can reach and leave the premises.
- Urban shop: Prioritise barcodes, stock, customer display, returns and quick peripheral replacement.
- Riad, cafe or restaurant: Prioritise roles, tables, kitchen, service closing and support during real opening hours.
5. Choose the supplier and accept the setup
A supplier may be in Marrakech or work remotely. Written responsibility is the useful criterion. Ask who delivers, installs, imports products, configures the printer, backs up, responds and replaces a part. A local seller without written commitments is not automatically safer than a remote publisher with a clear procedure.

- Buying in peak week. Import, opening count and training need a quieter period.
- Assuming the whole medina is offline. Test the exact shop and plan fallback.
- Confusing euro display with acceptance. Demonstrate payment, change and reports.
- Comparing a bare station with a kit. Align system, printer, drawer, scanner, delivery and setup.
- Sharing one account among seasonal staff. Create named roles and remove them at the end.
- Accepting a backup never restored. A copy matters only when another machine reads it.
